Rockin' RSS feeds!!!!!

Just had my first real exploration of RSS.Wow! I definitely need a cup of java or maybe something stronger? Anyway it's been interesting, challenging and informative. I think RSS is great for bringing relevant info to the individual and libraries can and should exploit this. Borrowers' can customize their accounts and receive feeds on whatever topic is of interest to them: book reviews, events, updates and so on.The possibilities are truely endless. I think this adds another connection between the client and the library highlighting the fact libraries are at the forefront of technology.
I've chosen a few sites: cooking, fashion, news and library talk, however there is a giant temptation to subscribe to everything! not the best way to go.
Navigating around all this technological 'stuff' requires time and patience (maybe qualities that busy librarians would love to have more of) however i'm going to go and have that cup of coffee and get back into it. Who knows what i'll find!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sunset in Santorini

One of my most memorable holiday moments was sitting on a white washed fence in the town of Oia in Santorini, watching the sun set. What is so special about a Santorini sunset? Well i guess most sunsets are pretty spectacular but there is something about the sun setting over the GreekIslands....maybe it's the light that reflects against the white houses, or the colour of the sea as the sun sets...or maybe it's simply the glass of retsina, the breeze in your hair and the love of your life by your side. Whatever it is, it truely is 'picture perfect'.

my musings on Learning 2.0

Ok deep breath and here i go jumping into my very first blog. Who would have thought that blogging would have been possible (even a short while ago?) What an exciting way to connect and communicate with anyone, from anywhere, at anytime. Learning 2.0 is an accessible and easy way for people like me (techno dinosaurs) to embrace the new technology and its opportunites with confidence and as i delve further into the program i hope that all its mysteries are revealed to me so that by the end of it i can translate my skills and knowledge to the library and my personal life. As supporters of Lifelong Learning this is yet another opportunity for libraries to reach the community. A library blog has the potential of reaching people (not just locally) and showcasing its many resources and services. Unfortunately there is still a stereotypical perception of libraries and librarians. You know what i mean, twinset and pearls, glasses perched at the end of the nose, disapproving sounds coming from pursed lips... i could go on! Blogs are a way for the library profession to show that indeed we are in the 21st century. Onwards and upwards.
